On Our Screen and Stage – Week of July 29, 2019

This week at Hopewell Theater, tonight the Mad Kings open for the Matt O’Ree Band as they celebrate their new album. On Thursday, bring the little guys to our Crybaby Matinee of the classic sci-fi film Back to the Future, in which a California teen is accidentally sent back in time by his eccentric scientist friend. If you can’t catch it then, we have a Family Matinee on Saturday. Also on Thursday is our final showing of The Last Black Man in San Francisco, a story about the journey of a man seeking to reclaim his grandfather’s house in a city that has left him behind. On Friday, political cartoonist Dwayne Booth, also known as Mr. Fish, is coming to Hopewell for our screening of the documentary Mr Fish: Cartooning in the Deep End, a film about the kinds of compromises a radical artist makes (or refuses to make) while trying to live in a traditional society. There will be a post-film discussion with Mr. Fish himself. On Saturday bring the family to rock out at our Family Fun Concert with Bee Parks and the Hornets! Then, finish the weekend with Wild Rose, where we witness a mom fresh out of prison pursuing her dream of becoming a country music star. Learn more and get tickets here.
