Kids, get ready to take the stage at Hopewell Theater for our Summer Stars Theater Camp! Running Monday through Friday, 1:30-5:00pm from July 8th to July 19th, this camp is for kids 1st through 7th grade who want to learn and experience theater with the guidance of experts.
Camp begins each day at 1:30pm, and pick up time is between 5:00-5:30pm. Every afternoon will be filled with fun, hands-on theater arts activities exploring character, movement, costuming, and backstage jobs. Supplies and nut-free snacks with vegetarian options will be provided, included in the registration cost. The program will lead up to and prepare campers for the final big Showcase on the final day of camp, July 19th, in which every camper has a part.
Campers will also have the opportunity to “meet the actors” after Traveling Lantern Theater Company’s production of “My Mother, the Astronaut” on Saturday, July 13th here at Hopewell Theater. Campers get two free tickets to the show for themselves and a parent/guardian.
This camp will be directed by HT’s Program Manager, Ashley Layton. Ashley was the Director of Branchburg Township’s Creative Theater Program for 5 years, working with children 6 to 14 years old after serving as Assistant Director for 5 years. During her tenure running the Creative Theater program she wrote, directed, designed, and stage managed every production. In 2014 she co-founded the non-profit theater company, The Igloo Collective, which focuses on using theater to connect communities and ignite change. She is currently its President of the Board of Directors. Ashley received her theater training at The New School, and currently curates the programming here at Hopewell Theater as program manager.
So if there are children in your life with a passion or curiosity for theater, sign them up – they’ll be sure to have a blast while learning all about what goes on behind the scenes at the theater. Registration ends Monday, July 1st so don’t wait!
