Aretha Franklin, who died this past August at age 76, is now a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The “Queen of Soul” is the first individual woman to receive the special citation prize, thanks to over 50 years of impassioned contribution to American music and culture. This isn’t her first “first,” however – she was also the first woman admitted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and had a slew of other achievements you can read about here.
We all miss Aretha, and now her dear friend Sarah Dash is coming to Hopewell Theater on June 15th to pay tribute to her. Like Aretha, Sarah Dash defines the word “legend.” As an award-winning vocalist, songwriter, motivational speaker, educator, entrepreneur, and humanitarian, Sarah is a unique force whose voice has touched millions of listeners around the world. From co-founding Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles and making history as a member of Labelle to becoming the very first Music Ambassador (2017) of her hometown Trenton, Sarah has blazed a trail in every facet of her remarkable career. There is truly no limit to the inspiration Sarah Dash brings to every note she sings.
So join us this June for a night of memories, music, and friendship as Sarah sings songs from Aretha’s songbook and shares stories about their past. You can purchase tickets and read more about Sarah’s remarkable life here.
You can also listen to Aretha herself in one of our showings of Amazing Grace, a never before seen film crafted from footage originally captured in the 1972 recording of the most successful gospel album of all time. Get tickets here.
