Take the Stage and Tell a Story at Hopewell Theater This Fall

Calling all storytellers! Community members are invited to take the stage here at Hopewell Theater for PECHA KUCHA NIGHT in October and MAP OF ABUNDANCE, A COMMUNITY READING in November.

Pecha Kucha Nights are informal, fun gatherings where creative people get together to tell stories. Devised in Tokyo for young designers to meet, network, and share their work in public, Pecha Kucha is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images for 20 seconds each, talking along to each image as they automatically advance. The presentation can be about your ideas, thoughts, work, projects, holiday snaps, and more.

Good Pecha Kucha presentations uncover the unexpected – unexpected talent, unexpected ideas. Some tell great stories about a project or trip. Others are incredibly personal, incredibly funny, but all are very different. Each turns Pecha Kucha Night into a “box of chocolates.”

Interested in being a storyteller? Call our box office at 609-466-1964 or email info@hopewelltheater.com. Anyone is welcome to simply watch and enjoy the presentations! Pecha Kucha Night takes place Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00pm. See more here.

In November we present Map of Abundance, A Community Reading, in which community players are invited to share a passage they’ve written or one dear to their heart celebrating experiences of gratitude and what makes life worth living. Hopewell Theater will have pre-selected readings for those who want to participate but do not have a work to share.

No experience, headshot, or resume is necessary! No community player will be turned away due to lack of experience, but works may be edited for content or time as needed.

All ages are encouraged to participate. Any person under the age of 18 who would like to be considered should come with their parent or guardian.

Important Dates for Map of Abundance:

  • The Open Call for Map of Abundance takes place Monday, October 14 from 6:00-8:00pm here at the theater.
  • Rehearsals are expected to be carried out independently save for the final mandatory rehearsals at the theater on Monday, November 11 at 6:00pm and Sunday, November 17 at 4:30pm
  • Map of Abundance, A Community Reading will take place on Sunday, November 17 at 7:30pm and all are welcome to join us for an evening of gratitude.

Community players are expected to be comfortable with their piece by November 11th, though memorization is not necessary. Should participants desire added direction, we will do our best to make the time before these rehearsals. See more here.
